In mid-October 2021, I took a two-day photo workshop with Randall Hodges that was very educational and fun. We explored the Tumwater Canyon/Lake Wenatchee area on Highway 2) to seek great photo opportunities. The weather was nice, brisk, and sunny, Randall went through some basics and showed how to use his techniques for “in camera” shooting to avoid post-processing as much as possible. He also has a great technique to use “split” neutral density filters in front of the lens to do a better job capturing scenes with larger bright areas like sunrises and sunsets.

We did some shooting early morning (7 AM!) at Lake Wenatchee and then spent a few more hours in the canyons and along the Wenatchee river chasing the optimum light. We also did some shooting from mid-afternoon to about 7 PM in the fading light. The colors were really great - just past “prime” with lots of colors still left to see.
